Sarah Gunn is the creator of the popular sewing blog, Goodbye Valentino and the co-author of The Tunic Bible. Sarah’s life of many roles and responsibilities demonstrates her deep commitment to living with creativity and purpose.

After majoring in Piano Performance at the University of Louisville, Sarah devoted a large portion of her career to the classical music industry serving as the Executive Director of the Music Foundation of Spartanburg and the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra in South Carolina. Later she became a mentor to classical musicians seeking to enhance their careers.

In 2011, after one too many shopping trips, Sarah vowed to abstain from buying clothes for one year. She dusted off her sewing machine, renewed her sewing skills and pledged to sew a stylish wardrobe on a modest budget. Sarah created Goodbye Valentino to chronicle her sewing journey. One year after creating Goodbye Valentino, Sarah became affiliated with Mood Fabrics, the fabric store of TV’s Project Runway by representing the store’s online sewing network as one of its nine original bloggers.

Sarah quickly discovered many changes in the sewing industry had occurred during her absence from sewing. A huge online sewing community had developed which connected her to readers worldwide. Sarah became aware that many women faced a multitude of wardrobe challenges, and that her journey inspired others to sew.

Featured in Vogue Patterns Magazine, Love Sewing Magazine, Inspired to Sew, as well as other industry, local and regional publications, Sarah has been voted as a Top 50 Blogger for Burda Style for the past two consecutive years, and continues to inspire thousands of women to sew clothes.

The Tunic Bible (C&T Publishing, October 1, 2016) is a one-stop pattern and lookbook, co-authored by Sarah Gunn and Julie Starr. Inspired by several popular Ready-to-Wear tunic designers, the book combines all of the components needed to construct unlimited fashionable tunics. Whether one’s aesthetic is everyday casual, preppy chic, boho, or glamorous, creating the ideal tunic is now easily achievable with one book. Written for home sewers of diverse sewing skills, the book features a tunic pattern with interchangeable sleeves, plackets and necklines adaptable to hundreds of style combinations.

Sarah’s greatest thrill in sewing is constructing clothes that fit her 5’2” frame, and recreating
Ready-to-Wear clothing for a fraction of the retail price. A mother to two grown daughters, Sarah resides in Spartanburg, SC with her husband, Billy, and their English Cocker Spaniel, Lulu.
